Smallfish Mailout 05/10/05

Hi there once again folks.

As our mailout generating program is still on the blink I thought I'd do =
one in a similar format to last week's, particularly as quite a few =
people seem to prefer it this way. Just head to =
http://www.smallfish.co.uk to see and hear all these releases (plus =
about 20,000 others!).

So, things to mention (and don't worry, I'm not going to go on about =
Small Melodies again this week!):

The Electric Institute Sampler 12"

Loads of excitement about the forthcoming compilation on New Religion in =
association with A.R.T, 'The Electric institute' complied and featuring =
Kirk Degiorgio with tracks by Carl Craig, Balil, Stacey Pullen, =
Neuropolitique and loads more. As a sweet little taster there's a =
limited 12" sampler featuring the tracks by Domu and Stacey Pullen and =
which, as you'd probably imagine, is really rather great! Definitely one =
to check if you're into Detroit Techno or any sort of future funk as =
they won't be around for long.

Lots of good Techno sounds once again

Yet another week that features a plentiful supply of minimalist Techno =
grooves... new Adjunct 12" featuring Paradroid, Tomas Jirku and Mikael =
Stavostrand... new Minus from Heartthrob (which is simply awesome)... =
the Wighnomy Bros. / Robag Wruhme remixes CD... new Mule Electronic from =
Microesfera featuring a wicked Mike Shannon remix... new Defrag Sound =
Processing from Anders Ilar (following up his tremendous Narita 12" from =
a couple of weeks back)... new Revolver from J. Hunsberger... new =
Logisitics from Jeff Samuel... storming Regis track with a Sleeparchive =
remix on US label Infrastructure... quite a few more!

Murcof - Remembranza - Leaf - CD

It's probably fairly accepted that Murcof's 'Martes' was something of a =
watershed album with its unique blend of ultra-intricate minimalist =
Techno and classical influences. Last year's 'Utopia' was a handy =
stopgap in terms of keeping us all happy for a short time, but now, =
here's the new album proper. Whilst there's a very distinct Murcof sound =
to the whole thing, it's fair to say that there's been a considerable =
development in the overall design of the sound with a much more =
sculptural feel with incredibly moody textures and string work. =
Evolution, not revolution, I guess you could say, but you seriously want =
to get your teeth into this if you like atmospheric, intense and =
hypnotic Electronica of any variety. Very good indeed!

Cactus Island CDs

After last week's shenanigans with the Digitonal 3" CDs out of the way, =
Cactus have announced that the next two releases are set to be released =
in short succession. First up is the Ylid EP followed very closely by =
the second of the EU EPs. I can only stress once again that it will pay =
to keep a very close eye on the website around the time of their release =
to make sure you secure your copy as they are still limited to 100 =
copies each and we can still only sell 1 to each customer. Keep your =
eyes peeled!

In-store show - Thursday 13th October - Battant from Firewire / Haywire

Another in-store show next week, this time featuring Firewire / =
Haywire's Battant performing live at Smallfish. With a blend of vocals =
and blistering Electro sounds, this could be one of the most upbeat =
shows we've had so if you fancy some foot-tapping music for free, come =
on down at 7.30pm with a beer and a friend. Should be a goodie.

Post_Piano 2 Open Remix Project

Not something that's available at Smallfish as it's an MP3 release, but =
definitely one to check out if you're into 12k, Line, Raster Noton, =
Spekk or other such minimalist labels.

People were invited to rework a track from Taylor Depree and Kenneth =
Kirschner's wonderful 'Post_Piano 2' CD [12K1032] for an online only =
compilation to be available on 12k's MP3 offshoot, Term.

Using only the original track as source material a wide range of artists =
both well know and unknown have contributed to a wonderfully spacious =
selection of tracks that fans of the aforementioned labels are sure to =
enjoy.

Most excellently, Smallfish's very own Remote_ had a track picked to be =
included and, along with all the others, it can be downloaded from 12k's =
website at: http://www.12k.com/index2.html

Definitely worth checking out!

So, that concludes this week's business.

Have a great week / weekend and take good care.

Peace.

The Fish.
